The University of Queensland Red Heavies have been crowned back-to-back champions of the Wheelchair Rugby National League in Sydney this afternoon, despite the efforts of hometown rival Bond University who staged a grandstand finish, falling just short of claiming their maiden league crown.
The University of Queensland Red Heavies remain undefeated in 2023 after winning Round 2 of the Wheelchair Rugby National League in Brisbane last weekend. Playing on home soil for only the second time, the Red Heavies were rarely troubled across the competition and have put themselves in the box seat to win back-to-back championship crowns with only one round remaining in the competition.

The University of Queensland Red Heavies picked up straight where they left off last year at Cobblebank Stadium in Victoria this weekend, securing the round 1 victory after going undefeated in all five of their matches.
Wheelchair Rugby Australia has today confirmed the playing squads of the 6 clubs set to take part in the upcoming 2023 Wheelchair Rugby National League.

The Melbourne Invitational tipped off the first weekend of wheelchair rugby on the calendar in 2024, with Caroline Springs Leisure Centre playing host to 5 National League teams and athletes from across the country. With numerous unavailability’s to Australian Steelers players, rested for the Paralympic Qualifier in NZ in two weeks, opportunity presented for many elder statesmen and young stars to take ownership of their team and push for placing points ahead of rounds 2 and 3 in Brisbane and Sydney respectively.
