 About the Australian Steelers

The Australian Steelers are Australia’s national wheelchair rugby team. The Steelers are one of the most successful sporting teams in Australia, winning two gold medals at the Paralympic Games (2012 and 2016) and two World Championships (2014 and 2022).

In 2024, the Australian Steelers took recently home the bronze medal at the Paris Paralympic Games.

Their success continued in 2025 at the inaugural Santos Wheelchair Rugby World Challenge hosted in Adelaide where they claimed an impressive second place, playing for the first time since 2018 in front of a roaring home crowd.

They return to Adelaide in April 2026 for the second Wheelchair Rugby World Challenge - don’t miss your chance to see the Steelers in action. Learn more and get your tickets today.

In 2026, the Steelers 22-strong extended squad brings together a blend of established Paralympians, experienced national representatives and emerging talent, highlighting the continued growth of wheelchair rugby across the country. Lead by long-serving Captain Chris Bond, 2026 sees a refreshed leadership group that reflects the depth of the squad. James McQuillan is the Steelers’ Vice Captain, and fellow leaders Shae Graham, Andrew Edmondson and Beau Vernon are part of the squad’s leadership group.
