2020 Wheelchair Rugby National Championship Cancelled

Wheelchair Rugby Australia (WRA), with the support of its state programs, has today announced the cancellation of the 2020 GIO Wheelchair Rugby National Championship. Originally scheduled in May, the event was due to be re-scheduled to November as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wheelchair Rugby Australia undertook an extensive decision-making process, consulting stakeholders and assessing a range of alternatives before arriving at this decision. Key considerations included the health and safety of participants, officials and spectators, along with logistical implications relating to travel and border restrictions for interstate programs and participants.

Wheelchair Rugby Australia understands the impact of this decision on athletes, officials and competing programs and will continue to work toward providing the best Wheelchair Rugby National Championships in 2021 which reflects the dedication and professionalism shown by athletes, officials and state programs during this time.
